ThinkFirst 2010 Chapter Training Fund

The ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation is currently seeking support for our 2010 Chapter Training Fund. Your donation or grant will help us provide educational training for physicians and hospitals starting ThinkFirst chapters. We are asking medical companies, and other interested supporters, to make a modest contribution of $1,500 to our 2010 Chapter Training Fund, in order to fully support this endeavor.

ThinkFirst is a 501c3 charitable organization, with 130 national and 40 international chapters that provide our award-winning injury prevention programs to children and teens. Each ThinkFirst Chapter, usually hospital-based, is led by a physician and a health educator who serves as the chapter director. These dedicated individuals attend a day-long session led by a ThinkFirst certified trainer, which prepares them to present our injury prevention programs to students in their communities.

Each year, we train 10 to 15 new U.S. chapters and the limited number of international physicians who are able to travel to the United States. However, we receive scores of additional requests for training that we cannot fulfill because of travel restrictions and logistics.

We would like to serve physicians and hospitals better by enhancing our chapter training opportunities. Each $1,500 donation will be used to help support the development and implementation of chapter training, including:

  • Development of on-line webinar training to provide access to all hospitals interested in chapter training. Past ThinkFirst Board member, Al Buscaino, of Indivo, is leading this effort
  • Host training days in conjunction with physician conferences, such as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (four physicians from Honduras attended the May 1, 2010 training in Philadelphia) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeon
  • Trainer fees
  • Administrative and technical assistance
  • Printing of training materials
  • Training supplies

Campaign Start/End: March 2010 - August 2010 (may be extended if needed)

Total budget for this project: $102,000
Sponsorship total as of June 2, 2010: $18,000

Contributors thus far include American Surgical Sponges, Globus Medical, Inc., Integra Foundation, Mayfield Clinic and Spine Institute, Medtronic Spinal & Biologics, Orthofix, Synthes and more. For a current acknowledgement list, please see Sponsors.

We have purposely kept our request to a modest $1,500 to facilitate a group effort from the medical industry most closely connected with treatment of brain and spinal cord injuries. Please help us reach our goal by becoming part of this supportive group! All interested contributors welcome.

For sponsoring the ThinkFirst 2010 Chapter Training Fund: all contributors will be featured on the ThinkFirst website, at ThinkFirst convention booths, in the chapter training materials throughout the next year, and in our Annual Report.
